Stop everything! X Factor's Simon Cowell has grown a stubbly beard

Everyone stop everything! Simon Cowell has debuted a beard, and so unexpected was it that we almost didn't recognise him as he arrived at The X Factor's launch in London this afternoon.

Following in the recent fashionable footsteps of Ed Miliband, the X Factor judge and music mogul sported silver stubble and his trademark Aviator sunglasses, white T-shirt and jeans as he posed for photographers on the red carpet.

Nick Grimshaw interview: 'I will definitely cry on The X Factor'

And we've got to say, we think it suits him.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini won't be performing on The X Factor and here's why

Cowell was joined by fellow judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini - looking cool in a low-cut, floral-print zip dress - and Nick Grimshaw - dapper in a navy top, leather bomber jacket and skinny jeans.

Rita Ora was absent from the ITV show's premiere due to pre-planned promotional duties in the US.

New presenters Caroline Flack - in a navy top and matching mini skirt - and Olly Murs - in a skinny navy suit and loafers SANS socks - cuddled up on the red carpet.

Former X Factor finalist Rylan Clark also made an appearance.

It was recently announced that viewers will decide which judge gets which category in the show's brand new format.

Viewers can vote via hashtag on Twitter to determine which judges get each of the Girls, Boys, Groups and Overs.

Speaking about this year's categories ahead of the show's launch, Cowell said: "Interestingly, there's no weak category this year.

"I can see who the winner of each category could be. It could all change, we've only seen them for the first time, then the second time we see them they could be terrible.
