Miley Cyrus shocks the MTV VMAs crowd by announcing release of free Dead Petz album

Miley Cyrus shocks the MTV VMAs crowd by announcing release of free Dead Petz album

It wasn't twerking this time around, but Miley Cyrus did shock MTV Video Music Awards viewers tonight (August 30) by releasing a new album.

A wild show-closing collaboration with Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne on new song 'Dooo It!' from the VMAs host concluded with Miley thrilling fans with an album announcement.

"It's online for free right now. I'll see you here right here next year," she told viewers in the MTV VMAs' final seconds.

The surprise release by Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz can be downloaded through the singer's official Twitter account.

This wasn't the only news that Miley made at the MTV ceremony, having beenconfronted on stage by Nicki Minaj after publicly criticising her last week.

Certainly no stranger to controversy, Miley returned to the VMAs as host two years after shocking the world with an explicit twerking routine.

The fallout from her sexy romp with Robin Thicke made headlines for weeks after the ceremony, leading Miley to spoof the incident on Saturday Night Live.

Perhaps we'll have a repeat when Miley hosts the season 41 premiere of SNL on October 3.
