Amal Clooney and Cindy Crawford’s tequila-based bond
To Ibiza, where the Ushuaïa Beach Hotel welcomed a glitzy Hollywood invasion at the weekend by way of actor George Clooney and his intoxicating sideline, Casamigos.
Where his tequila business goes, George’s glamorous entourage follows, which meant wife Amal, his Casamigos business partner Rande Gerber and his equally photogenic other half, supermodel Cindy Crawford in tow.
Being the boss, Clooney adopted the most décontracté of dress codes to mingle with a crowd that included singer James Blunt, photographer Mario Testino and top make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury.
Lucky then, that his barrister wife didn’t mimic his baggy and shirt formula but could be relied upon to dress for the party island’s flashbulbs in a gold minidress by French label Vionnet. A sharp contrast to the 37-year-old’s usual courtroom attire, Amal Clooney’s choice revealed not only her seemingly endless legs, but perhaps rather more white underwear than she bargained for in the process.
The camera loves Amal and her thick, lustrous hair, but it’s also long-loved Cindy, the wholesome, all-American supermodel whose friendship with George goes back many years.
Quietly playing the supporting role to husband Rande’s promotional duties, 49-year-old Crawford picked an understated, navy blue dress by Bottega Veneta and paired it with Azzedine Alaia shoes. If Amal was the tequila at Sunday’s night’s bash, then Cindy was the ice, diluting the impact.
And so it is that a high-end alcoholic beverage (Selfridges stocks Casamigos for £62.99 a bottle) has created a bond between two of the most photographed women in the world.
Both are powerful figures, Clooney in her work as a human rights lawyer and Crawford as one of the most recognisable faces of the past three decades, with an entrepreneurial string to her bow. We just hope that doesn’t stop them enjoying the hard stuff that brought them together in the first place...
