Antonio Banderas is studying fashion at Central Saint Martins
No, it’s not April 1 – Hollywood actor Antonio Banderas really has been accepted into one of the most esteemed fashion colleges in the world.
According to Dazed, the 55-year-old star of The Legend of Zorro is two weeks into pattern-making at the prestigious London university that boasts John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Phoebe Philo and Stella McCartney amongst its alumni.
Two days ago the Spaniard posted a picture of himself in a room amongst several mannequins, captioning the shot: “The 2nd week of studies at Central St Martin begins. Intense, exciting, serious and fun all the same time.”
It’s likely that Banderas will have enrolled into a short summer school programme; courses on offer cover everything from couture tailoring to styling and fashion drawing to photography.
The ex-husband of actress Melanie Griffith appeared on TV chat show Loose Women back in March to talk about his new journey.
“It’s something that has been on my mind for a long time, and probably one of the best schools in the world is here… Saint Martins University, and so I am going to start studying with them. It’s going to take a while but I need knowledge to take steps in that territory."
Banderas added that the move made him feel “very young”, but he won’t be giving film up just yet – he plans to continue acting and directing.
Keep your eyes on that London Fashion Week schedule – Antonio Berardi might just be coming up against Banderas one day.
